KARACHI: Governor Sindh Ishratul Ibad Khan on Monday said 38,000 people have been shifted to safer places due to torrential rains.

Ibad was speaking to media representatives after a four-hour-long tour through Karachi's Shahra-i-Faisal, Airport, Drigh Road, underpasses, Defence House Authority, Clifton and several other areas.

Ibad said 160 relief camps had been set up across the city. The camps were set up to provide food items and medical facilities to the displaced and other affected people, he said.

Rain water was not able to inundate Karachi's roads because of the joint administration taken up by the federal and provincial governments, he said. Disaster was also averted due to the revamping of Karachi's infrastructure carried out during the past few years, Ibad further said.

The governor also visited a relief camp set up in Karachi's Gulshan-i-Iqbal Town which is administering more than 150 affected people. - DawnNews
